Extra Verses for Turning to Jesus

Our congregation sang “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” yesterday in the Covenant Renewal service, but as I was preparing last week, I noticed the paucity of the rest of the words of that hymn. So, I composed a few extra verses that fit with the tune.hymn The last verse especially reflects the fact that the sermon text for the last Lord’s Day was Colossians 3:16. If you’re looking for other options in singing, you may want to consider the following:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
Take hold of His powerful hand.
He will lift you up in His mighty love.
In the strength of our God we will stand.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
His covenant mercy I’ll sing
With His blood and grace to hide all my sin
My whole heart as an off’ring to bring

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Let His Word dwell deeply within
And His peace and love will rule from above
Our salvation and glory to win

Bonus question: does the opening verse of this hymn encourage disobeying WLC 109, which forbids “the making any representation of God, of all or of any of the three persons… inwardly in our mind?”
